Recycling

Recyclables are sent to a recycling center separated at a waste transfer station.

Many plants use several sorting techniques, including manual sorting of recyclables by hand and then placing the material down an optical or NIR (near infrared) line to sort plastics by polymers of which they are made. They will then be converted into new materials; reusable resources will be kept from the site.

Garbage Burning

Waste incinerators have once been considered a thing of the past, but come back with increasing waste to power plants. While it is attractive and may well sound ideal to turn waste into renewable energy, it is not unaddressed. Even new incinerators release toxic and harmful metals, dioxins and acidic gases. This could be a promising way forward, but it is still not perfect.

Every year, about 33 million tons of food debris ends up in a site, an alarming figure. In your kitchen and garden, you particularly consider the benefits of using and composting food waste. Composting food scraps helps you reduce your scrap and waste and makes you aware of the food we use in relation to waste. If you haven't already, it might even inspire you to plant a garden.

Restrict Plastic Use

The U.S. throws average 185 pounds per year of plastic. Every year, approximately 8 million tons of plastic will be dumped into the sea. Reusable bottles of water are useful but not the only way to minimize your use of plastic. Look around for further ways to reduce plastic in your clothes and cleaning cabinets.

Buy and Own Only Required Less Staff

If we just buy less stuff, we can all live happier lives. Living can just produce less waste and open your eyes to how much we don't really need. Think of what kind of garbage it produces over its lifetime next time you buy something. Consider where your waste will go and how long it will remain there once it has left your eyes. The way you feel with the things we "must have" could only change.
